A traditional reception assumes you are serving a meal, and will, therefore, require some form of china, flatware, and glassware for dining. Formal weddings require more pieces for each place setting, while less formal simply command the basics. Either way, you will want to match your selections to your menu. If you have a soup course, provide a soup bowl, etc.
